Art Makes Home Cozy
What are your favorite ways for making your home cozy? Is it the lighting, cookies baking in the oven? Do you swear by a paint color, or by a certain rug under your feet?
Creating a cozy home has always been so important to me. Thoughtful atmosphere can have a multiplying affect on your peace and joy in the moments you're having with your family. All those sweet memories.
I always say the same thing about home -- curate what you love. Gather what makes your heart sing and it will all go together. And just as important- let it take time. I have a dear friend who has such an incredibly inspiring home, an intuitive way of pulling together spaces. These spaces have sparked my creativity, helped me peacefully reflect, and have set a safe welcoming tone for opening up my heart in fellowship. I ask her why she doesn't share on social media. Her answer is simple and it is also important. She tells me: I have been collecting for 30 plus years. I don't want to share these space on social media as to not impose on younger generations this expectation that they need to have their home look like this too. They would put stress on their family's finances and expect an overnight change. Overnight mentality can lead to collecting mass produced life-less 'art.'
For me it was a thought to roll around-- what is art for the home? Is it a print from Target? Is it anything that takes up space on a wall? Does it merely have to be the right color and the right size?
I have found that I am very pro-original art. I am pro-handmade quilts. I am pro-home cooked meals. I am pro-original paintings. I am pro-hand built ceramics, and one of a kind pottery. I am pro-curating what you love over time. I am pro-hunting for antique dishes and beautiful crafted furniture. There is an art to them and it is the heart behind them - the heart going in to them. That heart is the beauty in the work in my estimate. The heart in the art is like having friends and love hanging on the walls. Things that took time, consideration, and love.
I want a home that is cozy, that has life, joy, peace, and beauty to it. Which is why I say: Art makes home cozy.
