It's Tuesday.
Not sure I have anything profound to say today. However, it's Tuesday. An ordinary Tuesday and I told myself a few weeks ago I'd journal every Tuesday. Ever noticed how people who curse Mondays wrestle with it the most as if the Monday itself KNOWs it's unwanted, and then rebels?
Well who ever has a cross word to say about a Tuesday? It just sits affable, happening, like some good obedient child that never makes a fuss and lets everyone else carry on without one utterance of self-promotion or beseeching. Its a mundane day. Like a mundane task. Like a mundane room in your house.
A silly thing in me, I know, but I'm sure to doll up my laundry room wherever I land. It houses the MOST mundane task of the household. So I add bead board, and cute baskets, and clear jars with scoops. There's usually a small lamp and a piece of art. And voila, I have a little love in a mundane space that otherwise would never be considered.
And then there is the grocery shopping. If I have to go into some big box grocery store, and it is not easily called a market, I have a MONDAY. But If i go into a 'Market' that you can easily see all four walls no matter where you stand, then I have a TUESDAY. But if I buy flowers, and doll up the experience, then I have a day I let love into. If I tell the cashier, oops I forgot something and snag a bouquet for the lady in that line behind me, hand them to her and watch her heart flicker across her face, then I brought some kindness to that day.
And ALL of a sudden, a mundane colorless day that is easy to move through robotically, becomes a day akin to the feeling when you open your windows that first utterance of spring when the birds songs warm your soul and hope floods in on every cob-webby part of your thinking.
SO, its Tuesday. The day I'm journaling.
It's Tuesday, the day I'm going to take out the trash, and the day I'm going to hand write a letter and let it fly through the mail to a friend.
It's Tuesday, when I get home I need to switch out the laundry, and I'm going to look my husband in his eyes and thank him for every way that he shows up for us girls, and I'm gonna kiss that man.
It's Tuesday, I have emails to answer, paintings to paint, AND somewhere in between I'm going to walk across the street from my studio, over a side walk carpeted with crunchy leaves and order an Earl Grey Arnie Palmer and smile and the girls working at the local coffee shop.
It's Tuesday, I need to swing by the grocery for a bulb of fennel, and chances are high I will walk myself right over to the bakery and ask them to box up a strawberry cannoli that I will hide and eat after my girls have gone to bed over a beeswax candle in my jammies, in the kitchen tonite.
It's Tuesday, my brain is running a mile a minute, AND I'm going to take my thoughts and guide them into a practice suited for a day JUST like this-- a practice of saying THANK you God. a practice of halting ruminating thoughts that benefit nothing and no one, and let my thoughts ruminate on all the good in my life, in my home, in my family. Let it ruminate on all the amazing friends I have who have so many WONDERFUL gifts and talents in their lives. Thanking God for his hand on them, in their lives, and in everythhing they put their hands to.
And all of a sudden, Tuesday is a beautiful bright spirited life-giving light, shining in, on and outward.

-----
-Here are some ideas I do to doll up any 'ordinary' day.
- Smile at people, ANY ONE.
- Drink my coffee slow and look out the window.
- Drink my coffee slow and look out the window.
- Write a quick love note, and tuck it somewhere for someone in your family to stumble upon.
- Write a handwritten letter. Stamp it. Mail it.
- Drive home a different way from work.
- Leave a little early and take my girls to the local bakery before school. ESPECIALLY if its been a rougher morning.
- Go for an evening walk. Even if JUST for ten mins.
- Make a new meal - and keep it simple.
- Buy some flowers. For the LOVE of all things. Just buy yourself flowers. Or pick some with the pair of scissors that you will keep in your vehicle console from this day forward. You will thank yourself.
- Light a candle for dinner, for breakfast, for that cannoli you eat alone in the dark of the kitchen so you don't have to share its delicacies.
- Buy local. Buy something that on the surface looks like treating yourself, but really it is a BLESSING to the person & small business you're buying it from.
- BUY a gift for a friend. for NO REASON. This really blows up skirts, I tell you. a book you loved, your favorite lipstick, buy a giftcard for a stranger at a coffee shop. GIVE gifts. It LIGHTS up the day and then ripples.
